Mary Tasi Baker

Inclusive, progressive, and thoughtful leadership.

Mary has proven experience as a School Board trustee serving from 2008 to 2011. During that time, the board built three new schools: Queen Mary, Ridgeway, and Carson Graham and Indigenous graduation rate increased by 100%.

She believes in strong communication and in listening to students, teachers and parents.

When elected, Mary Tasi Baker will work to:

  • Create a North Shore Advisory Group with West Vancouver and Squamish and Tseil Waututh Nations
  • Support outdoor learning and environmental stewardship
  • Restore thoughtful and respectful dialogues to the School Board
  • Promote respect and reconciliation throughout the school system
  • Support a new Lower Lonsdale school

"Every child is an individual and has a right to a supportive public school education. As a former Trustee, I demonstrated collaborative leadership in initiating:

  • More proactive approaches to supports, in service activities, and 'Pro D'
  • Many specialty programs – dance, volleyball, soccer
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) at Carson, Queen Mary, Capilano Schools
  • An increase in the aboriginal graduation rate by 100%
  • French immersion programs (North Vancouver now has the strongest in BC)
  • Mountainside School for diverse learners
  • 'Towards the Future for Schools' Standing Committee
  • Outdoor classrooms and gardens
  • The re-building of three 'state of the art' schools, two of which were a heritage re-design. Queen Mary, Ridgeway and Carson Graham

I have advocated for Student programs and services; resources for Teachers and Staff; voices for the Parents; and funds for Education.”
